The
third
printing
of
this
hardback
sold
out
in
November
2003,
a
few
days
before
Ted
Bates
died.
In
response
to
demand,
and
with
the
approval
of
Ted’s
family,
we
decided
to
publish
a
commemorative
paperback
edition,
incorporating
a
completely
new
final
chapter
on
the
last
five
or
six
eventful
years
of
his
life.
In
2001
alone,
Ted
Bates
went
to
Buckingham
Palace
to
receive
his
MBE,
was
made
a
Freeman
of
the
City,
ceremonially
closed
the
Dell
gates
and
opened
the
new
St
Mary’s
Stadium.
